Subject: trade unions Guys, how would y'all translate the following phrase into english, страна непуганных работодателей. there is really no context to it, i was just translating the other day a meeting of coal miners trade union reps and ILO mission officials, and this phrase came up. could the resident wonks help me out, please? hugs, talgat

| naive employeers? в культовой русской книге "Золотой теленок" (или "Двенадцать стульев"? так или иначе, некоторые русские журналисты обожают цитировать Ильфа и Петрова) есть выражение "страна непуганных идиотов" (с продолжением "Самое время пугнуть"). В оригинале эти слова, "непуганные идиоты", принадлежат жулику, аферисту, a con artist/swindler, который видит широкое поле возможностей для своих афер в провинции, где народ прост, неискушен, innocent, и еше не сталкивался с махинациями, на которые никогда не клюнул бы столичный житель. Видимо, подразумевается, что работодатели еще не сталкивались с организованными формами протеста рабочих, что профсоюзы до сих пор не выступали как серьезные защитники интересов рабочих. |
| не, "наивный работодатель" - это смешно. Может, employers who live in the pre-trade union world? |
