med. Inflammation of the lungs, which is usually caused by a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection. People older than 65 years of age or younger than 2 years of age and people with weakened immune systems are more at risk for pneumonia. Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, fevers, chills, chest pain, and weakness.
