Defense diplomacy aims to dispel hostility, build and maintain trust and assist in the development of armed forces accountable to the civilian government to make a significant contribution to conflict prevention and resolution. оборонная дипломатия (англ. термин взят из кн.: Military Balance 2009. – London: International Institute for Strategic Studies, 2009; термин введён Министерством обороны Великобритании в 1998 г. Суть оборонной дипломатии состоит в решении основных задач в области национальной обороны с целью укрепления положения страны на международной арене, а именно: 1) осуществление прямых контактов между военными специалистами различных стран для достижения стабильности, установления взаимопонимания и доверия, 2) продвижение демократических преобразований в военной сфере (отношения между военным и гражданским секторами общества, гражданский контроль над Вооруженными силами, 3) повышение оперативной совместимости с союзниками (военной техники, вооружений и боеприпасов, а также доктрин применения Вооружённых сил в конфликтных ситуациях).
