mil., logist. The ordering or positioning of tactical formations and units and their reinforcements for battle. The combat deployment must conform to the objective of the forthcoming battle, ensuring successful action employing all types of weapon, a robust and energetic defence, concentration and build-up of effort in the course of the battle on the chosen axis or in the chosen area, movement, the decisive defeat of the enemy over the entire depth of the area of operations in the offensive, the beating off of air attacks and destroying of enemy airmobile and sabotage and reconnaissance forces. The combat deployment must also minimize the vulnerability of troops to conventional weapons, precision-guided weapons and weapons of mass destruction while maintaining continuous cooperation and continuity of command and control. A specific battle deployment is employed in all arms of the service in the various forms of battle. However, formations and units from different arms carrying out a joint mission in one sector usually adopt a common combat battle deployment. (UKR/NATO)
