mil., logist. Initiatives taken in peace and war by the opposing sides in the fields of information and psychology. They include a combination of measures inducing the desired behavioral and emotional changes in specific groups or individuals with regard to certain matters. They are used to undermine the morale of the enemy's troops and the civilian population, to counter similar operations on the part of the enemy and to reinforce the morale of friendly forces and populations. They most frequently take the form of written and oral propaganda disseminated by the press, television, radio, videos, etc. Also called psychological warfare. (UKR/NATO)
