12 p.m. - полдень 12 a.m.
Properly, AM is ante meridiem, and lies between 00:00:00 and 12:00:00, NON-inclusive of the end instants; and PM is post meridiem, between 12:00:00 and 24:00:00, NON-inclusive. Thus 00:00:00, 12:00:00, 24:00:00 are neither AM nor PM. But in practice 12.00 AM probably means the earlier midnight, and 12:00 PM means midday, by analogy with the hours that they start. For a US view, see at NIST. http://www.merlyn.demon.co.uk/datefmts.htm#AP |
+ 12 noon is neither a.m. nor p.m. To avoid confusion, the correct designation for twelve o'clock is 12 noon or 12 midnight. Alternatively, the twenty-four-hour-clock system may be used. The abbreviation a.m. stands for ante-meridiem (before the Sun has crossed the line) and p.m. for post-meridiem (after the Sun has crossed the line). At 12 noon, the Sun is at its highest point in the sky and directly over the meridian. It is therefore neither "ante-" nor "post-". |
12 am = midnight 12 pm = noon |
