LAUNCHING LIFERAFTS

WARNING... THE ENGINES MUST BE SHUT DOWN AND THE SKIRTS DEFLATED BEFORE LAUNCHING THE LIFERAFTS.

The following liferaft launching procedure is the same at each position on the craft.

(1) Release the Steinhouse slip or cut the lanyard above the Steinhouse slip and push the liferaft overboard.

(2) Quickly pull in the painter until the inflation bottles discharge (this may require a firm jerk) and continue to pull as the liferaft inflates. Ensure that the liferaft deploys the correct way up with the orange colour topside.

(3) A bowsing line is spliced into the painter at approximately 4 metres from the liferaft.

(4) Continue to pull in the painter until the liferaft is close to the craft and make fast securely to the LEFT HAND cleat.

(5) Take the bowsing line (smaller diameter) to the right hand cleat, haul the liferaft as close as possible to the craft and make fast.

(6) Dispose of loose bowsing line and painter overboard to prevent interference with evacuation.

(7) The liferaft is now ready for evacuation.
