I cannot quite get the question. Gogo, so, you understand the meaning, but you have no context and want to create it, right? :))) just the opposite thing of what people are doing on the site :)))

Sight/Time Drafts? ok, MT is not really helping me here. there are variants but i cant seem to guess which one is it.

the others, yeah althea, i got it

right but is it sight draft

OR

what i need is for someone to tell me which is mor commonly used when talking about LCs

 Althea

link 26.07.2006 14:39
All of the above - that depends on your context (with some help from your colleagues in the bank - you know, translator's consultation with available experts ... )

Because phrases before and after OR actually mean more or less the same - oh the wonders of Russian never cease!

and if the text is just general? as in it says:
Sight and Time Drafts

All letters of credit require the beneficiary to present a draft and specified documents in order to receive payment. A draft is a written order by which the party creating it, orders another party to pay money to a third party. A draft is also called a bill of exchange.
There are two types of drafts: sight and time. A sight draft is payable as soon as it is presented for payment.
A time draft is not payable until the lapse of a particular time period stated on the draft. The bank is required to accept the draft as soon as the documents comply with credit terms. The issuing bank is obligated to accept drafts and pay them at maturity.

what would you use althea?

and my collegues are no help today. they are all in meeting of this or that sort and writing contracts of this or that sort. so i am asking you :)

 Althea

link 26.07.2006 15:07
What, all of them at once?
Nobody who can tell you whether your bank prefers the word "вексель" or the word "тратта"?

Oh, look! there are other things in

These words are synonims!!! Who could have guessed?

But then again, what do I know ... I have no credentials to boast of, and is humbled by a very impressive list of skills and expertise.

i am not doubting you and did not ask for your credentials. i am asking you, "in the context i gave, which term from the HUGE list is better to use?"
and yes, unfortunately, as we are not an enormous bank, all our lawyers and economists are a bit too busy today to deal with my questions as i learn the ropes of the LC thing.
one out of three lawyers is away at a meeting with a client somewhere in Himki, another is busy writing an uber-important contract and the other is in a meeting with the director and some clients. the economists are all doing audit things. so sorry so much if my idiocy in this field is irritating you a bit.
and i am not a blithering idiot. i realize that they are synonyms. i need to know which one is more commonly used in generalized texts and your listing your credentials and telling me that they are synonyms is absolutely of no use at all.

by the way: if you are so bloddy smart: why do you have grammtical errors here: But then again, what do I know ... I have no credentials to boast of, and is humbled by a very impressive list of skills and expertise. and a blatant spelling error here: These words are synonims!!! Who could have guessed? ??

and your blatant attack on someone who never claimed to be uber-qualified as a translator and is not actually working as a translator but occasionally has to do that bullshit job, is truly uncalled for.

in my stooper caused by a lack of sleep i will admit i didnt see the help i was getting, and got freaky. i kept thinking i just wasnt making myself clear enough. then later when i looked at this mess, i said to myself "where am i today? what the hell is wrong with me today?" and then finally said, "thank goodness this translation is for me really and not for work as i would have probably been fired today considering my absolute and hideous lack of any sort of IQ today."

its a nightmare up there and i admit it. and i am still at work. i want die.
and for V's info.. i miss my kid horribly and hate myself for living in russia becasue depending on my job for my right to be here i was FORCED to "leave" her for the bank.

Cosmickitten,

What was the point? Everyone here already knows.
And why drudge up someone else's past shames; does it bring you pleasure?

not really. I look like a woman who had just gotten off maternity leave and was slammed with a 17 page Eng - Rus translation on a topic she knew nothing about. :)

 Cosmickitten

link 28.10.2010 12:08
