The required H2S is generated locally on each particle, in each pore thus minimizing the possibility of the metals reducing and thus reducing the resultant activity of the catalyst. This avoids the high diffusion limitations into each catalyst pore that apply with feed sulphiding, as well as the sensitivity to liquid/gas distributions in the catalyst bed.
