The NiMo pretreat catalyst and NiW cracking catalyst were both presulphurized using the *** process. The catalyst was to be activated gas-phase (hydrogen flow only) due to the presence of the high-activity cracking catalyst. Because of the lower heat sink available in a gas-phase start-up, there were concerns about temperature rise during the activation. Figure 6 shows the temperatures in the cracking reactor during gas-phase activation of the NiW catalyst.
