you should not work AT ALL
whatever you do must be paid on top of your salary and at market rates

If you agree to work two months before you have the baby and two months after you have had the baby, you do it willingly, and during these four you are paid in any case - whether you work or just stay at home with the newborn. After the expiration of this period (when the child is 2 months old) you can start working or stay at home, during this period you will receive a small compensation from the state till the child is 1.5 years, and a still smaller compensation until the child is 3 years.
But I think you can agree it with your boss - may be through a bonus? Or salary increase?

Of course you can ask for a bonus in the amount of a month's salary... They will accrue it as a bonus.
It gets too difficult, you can always share your work with someone else, but now I think it is better to agree to do all work they offer, if your visa depends on your work there... Hope your baby does not cry a lot ... And really - you should ask for additional pay!

Does she have a "happy hour" when she cries every day at the same time? Or does she do it whenever she feels like it?

Yeah, sounds are great to distract them...

Or you can get a GRACO swing (seesaw), it has such a raspy and screechy sound - it makes them sleep. Sometimes :)

You have a permanent job and a fixed salary? Then, when pregnant, you should have had a sick leave for 20 weeks. Usually women take it 10 weeks before the expected birth date, but one can continue to work till the birth and stay in sick leave for 20 weeks after the birth. This sick leave is paid as a sick leave for any disease, and you should not work at all (as you do not work when you cought a cold). And nobody can make you work if you do not want to. Certainly you CAN work if your boss asks for it, then he should give you some compensation, but it is not official (moneyin the envelope etc.). After 20 weeks you take maternity leave. While on maternity leave, you can start working or stay at home. During this period:
1. If you stay at home - you will receive a small compensation from the state till the child is 1.5 years, and a still smaller compensation until the child is 3 years.
2 If you work full-time - you loose this small compensation but you get your full salary.
3/ If you work part-time (even 39 hours a week instead of 40) - you keep this small compensation and a corresponding part of your salary.

When your child is 3 years old you should turn to work, but you can work on "incomplete working day" or "incomplete working week" schedule till your child is 14 years old, and the employer is obliged to permit it to you.

This is Labor Code of the Russian Federation. I don't know your conditions and relations with the employer, so I beg your pardon if my message is off the point.
