A frontier worker is one who lives in one member state and works in another, returning home daily or weekly. Frontier worker status may be retained, however, for a period of up to 4 months in cases where it was not possible to return home during that period. For example, persons who live in Ireland and work in Northern Ireland, or vice versa, are classified as frontier workers.

Under E.U. Regulations a frontier worker is entitled to receive health services in the State in which he is resident as if he is insured in that State. He is also entitled to receive benefits in the State in which he is employed and such benefits are provided in accordance with the provisions of the legislation of that State, as though the person concerned was resident in that State.

A frontier worker who is not insured, or is evading insurance, does not qualify for benefits under E.U. Regulations (but may qualify under domestic legislation)

The person's spouse and dependants are entitled to receive benefits under the same conditions.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Eligibility is dependant on where the Frontier worker lives and works.
