and Improves Hole Quality
Halliburton’s innovative SlickBore™ matched drilling
system is part of the FullDrift™ drilling suite, which also
includes the Geo-Pilot™ rotary steerable system and
SlickBore Plus™ drilling and reaming system. A smooth hole
can influence every parameter of the well construction
process—from downhole vibration and torque and drag to
hole cleaning, trip time, logging tool response, and ease of
running both logging tools and casing. This new suite of
point-the-bit systems can help deliver a quality hole, free
from spiraling and tortuosity.
Comparison of holes drilled by conventional PDMs and
the SlickBore™ system indicates that conventional PDM
systems become prone to hole spiraling, whereas the
SlickBore™ drilling system does not. This holds true in
both rotary and oriented motor applications.
