Гугл-переводчик даёт, кмк, не самый плохой вариант. Many diseases are of a bacterial nature, which is the reason for the therapeutic effect of the active substance. Для пущей убедительности можно воткнуть ещё just между is и the reason. Т.е.: Many diseases are of a bacterial nature, which is just the reason for the therapeutic effect of the active substance. |

Если бы написать, что The therapeutic effect of the active substance is due to the bacterial nature of a great many of diseases, восприятие предложения существенно выиграло бы, имхо. |
