The whole line is as follows: Researching in field of reduction of in kind penalties according to the Russian Supreme Court. There's no other context. Other lines of a list do not give any related information. |

AnstaAnsta: The English may be perfectly OK, but just missing a hyphen. If it's well-written, "in kind penalties" should be written as either 'in-kind penalties' (with a hyphen, as Rus_Land says) or else as 'penalties in kind' (without a hyphen). (They mean the same thing). This is because * the 'in-kind' in 'in-kind penalties' is a compound adjective, and so is hyphenated, whereas * the 'in kind' in 'penalties in kind' isn't a compound adjective, and so isn't hyphenated. If you show a few more paragraphs from the original (even if they don't relate directly to "reduction of in kind penalties according to the Russian Supreme Court"), it will show us how good the English is generally -- and so tell us whether this is just a minor punctuation error, or is due to the English generally being badly-written. |

| Какие мои соображения на этот счёт. Если это все же штраф в натуральном выражении, в неденежной форме... Ведь таких штрафов вроде не существует в мире? Тогда зачем оказывать услугу по изысканиям на тему как уменьшить такие (несуществующие) штрафы? Правда, под penalty может скрываться иное какое-то взыскание, и тут уже могут быть варианты. Если это все же подобные штрафы, то тогда где-то в тексте должно предшествовать что-то о штрафах, взысканиях, но этого в тексте нет... |

The English looks reasonable to me (about 7-8/10), so it's probably just a missing hyphen: 'in-kind penalties'. When people omit the hyphen from a compound adjective it can sometimes change the meaning of the phrase/sentence or leave it ambiguous/unclear, as in this case. Amor 71: I meant that 'in-kind penalties' and 'penalties in kind' mean the same thing. |
