Subject: over a three-day period
Помогите, пожалуйста, вот что это over a three-day period - куда его приткнуть? In 2004, out of nowhere, Chinese habits of snacking spread dramatically. The number of Chinese adults between nineteen and forty-four years of age describing themselves as eating snacks over a three-day period nearly doubled, while the number of children between two and six years old reported as eating snacks rose almost as much. By 2011, snacking had taken another massive stride forwards

Yes, it looks as though the pollsters involved in the соц. опрос (or whatever it is) went out and asked people (for example): "How many times did you snack between Monday and Wednesday?", ie over a [specified by the pollsters] three-day period -- here, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

If most people answered (say) "Once", they've snacked 'once over a [specified] three-day period'.

If the pollsters asked them the same question again a few years later and most people answered (say) "Twice", they've snacked 'twice over a [specified] three-day period'.

I don't think it mattered how many snacks they ate over that period as long as they reported that they had any. What doubled was the number of people who answered "yes"

That's very true. Yes, there is a subtle difference and you're probably right.
