adult patients older adult patients |
если возрастные рамки не описаны, то может контекст подразумевает просто пожилые? |
если older (не elder), то сравнивают же с кем-то Совершенно не так: Older adults represent 13% of the total population in the United States, but account for over 40% of U.S. hospitalizations. http://journals.lww.com/nursing/Fulltext/2015/10000/Can_being_ageist_harm_your_older_adult_patients_.18.aspx#P34 (здесь все о них, об older adult patients) См. также определения older здесь и еще во многих местах: |

* 'older' literally means 'more old than', of course, but in addition * 'older people', 'elderly people' and 'the elderly' are all frequently used as polite terms for 'old people'. When used in this way they're not meant as comparatives, despite the '-er' ending; they're simply euphemisms, because no-one likes to be called 'old'. Similarly, unintelligent children are sometimes politely referred to as 'less intelligent children'. Which of these two is meant here, depends on the context and what precedes the phrase/sentence. |
