| Ставится. В данном предложении (в начале) дата выступает как Appositive, Introductory phrase. Но в предложении Police officers arrested .. Monday, October 2, 2005. |

In my business writing class in college, they taught us that if an introductory clause ("On October 2") has two words or more, it is advisable to separate it from the main sentence with a comma. On the other hand, in a sentence like "Yesterday police officers arrested.", I would probably not use any commas. |
