Subject: Перевод географических выражений geogr. Суть в чем. Есть слова Валахия, Мухосранск, Пампасы. Надо найти им английские аналоги, реально существующих мест (не midlle of nowhere). Если, например, Валахия и так используется в значении "фиг знает где", то тоже напишите. Заранее спасибо.

Well, he should know! I once had an Australian neighbour. Darwin came up in the conversation and she said "Please don't mention Darwin. We Australians don't talk about it, it's a bit of an embarrassment". Sir John Betjeman used to think Slough [произ. Слау], a large town west of London, had been ruined by architects and property developers. So in the '30s he wrote a poem calling for it to be blown up: "Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough! I don't know what he'd have thought of Darwin. |
