Subject: представлять собой gen. I haven't gotten my head wrapped around this term yet. I ran across it in this context:"GPRS... представляет собой GSM-стандарт пакетной передачи данных..." Should I just translate it as "is"? What about this phrase (pulled from the Internet): Что представляет собой эта крепость, какая ли она? Something along the lines of "What is this fortress and what does it represent"? |

"represent" from the second example does not sound right. Here "представляет собой" means "what is it about?"/"how does it look like?" |
