B.3 Cooked Frac Sand Hydrocarbon Background Standards
Clean quartz sand which has been heated to 1000 0C to remove a large percentage of the fluid inclusion population is analyzed 11 times during each analytical run. The results are given in Figure 23. Ideally, these spectra should show approximately an order of magnitude less total response than those from the proceeding “Frac Sand Standard", as well as an increase in air components (e.g. nitrogen at m/z = 28; oxygen at m/z = 32; argon al m/z = 40) resulting from entrapment of air into evacuated cavities during the heating treatment.
