A little history helps

We go back. The Humes brand first entered the New Zealand market place over 80 years ago in 1923, when pioneering industrialist Walter Hume opened a concrete pipe manufacturing plant in Masterton.

The great man had founded the company even earlier, back in 1910 in Adelaide, Australia. Not long after, he invented a machine that used centrifugal force to apply paint to steel surfaces.

Then Walter Hume discovered a way to apply the same technique to making concrete pipes. Using the new method, concrete was spun horizontally within a steel mould using centrifugal force. The result was stronger pipes - with more uniformity and durability than competing products

The die was cast - and Walter Hume laid the foundation of company that would soon move into a wide range of associated manufacturing endeavours.
