Subject: глагол в единственном или во множественном числе?
Подскажите пож-та после процентов правильно использовать глагол в единственном или во множественном числе? Например:
менее 10% сельскохозяйственной продукции закупается заводами для переработки, остальные 90% реализовываются на рынке.

Мой вариант:
Less than 10% of agricultural products are bought by processing plants while the rest 90% are sold on the market.

TIA

После процентов глагол используется в том числе, в котором стоит существительное (проценты которого указаны)
10 % of these books are (mine, e.g)
10% of the book was (translated by smb. else, e.g)

Процент рассматривается как одна часть целого, то есть число - единственное.
10% of production IS all we have

10-4,
"Ninety percent of all writers hate style guides"
Вы предлагаете hates?

"With words that indicate portions—percent, fraction, part, majority, some, all, none, remainder, and so forth —look at the noun in your of phrase (object of the preposition) to determine whether to use a singular or plural verb. If the object of the preposition is singular, use a singular verb. If the object of the preposition is plural, use a plural verb.

Examples:

Fifty percent of the pie has disappeared.
Fifty percent of the pies have disappeared."

Из вопроса к 10-4 "Вы предлагаете hates?" вытекает, что его утверждение "10% of production IS all we have" неверно. Так? В таком случае правильным должно быть "10% of production ARE all we have".

Are you sure?

Though I feel like using singular here, probably because of the Russian "продукция"... Can "Products" be understood like a singular here? (like "output" - maybe, a better word?)

natives needed)) so I choose to stick to the rules

Yippie,
читайте внимательно,
я утверждаю только то, что глагол нужно согласовывать с числом существительного, а не со словом per cent. I am 100% SURE.
Правильно:
10% of production IS...
Fifty percent of the pies HAVE disappeared."
Ninety percent of all writers HATE style guides"
10-4,
русский-то здесь причем? На английский переводим...

Что касается русского, здесь все сложнее.

RE: "глагол нужно согласовывать с числом существительного"
Вот именно это утверждение спорно.
30% of the book WAS translated
30% of its pages WERE translated
Так получается?

ДА.
(Если не считать того, что предложение
///30% of its pages WERE translated/// смысла не сильно много несет, как таковое). А там, где несет, именно так...

The noun after the percentage in the plural entails the verb in the third plural, in the singular - in the third singular. As simple as that.

1) The leading contributor to food waste - 55% - was food going off before being eaten, research shows. Fifteen percent was found to be from unfinished food on our plates and 7% was of food not tasting as good as expected.

2) A further 29 percent of farm households were found to be sustainable due to the presence of an off- farm income source while the remaining 35 percent were deemed to be economically vulnerable (having no alternative income source within the household).

Correction:

2) A further 29 percent of farm households were found to be sustainable due to the presence of an off-farm income source while the remaining 35 percent were deemed to be economically vulnerable (having no alternative income source within the household).

Daffodil3, в вашем случае множественное - оно там подразумевается, о чем вам даже по-русски написано ("остальные").Если хотите, это место можно преобразить вообще без глаголов: " by processing plants, the rest 90% being sold on the market. "

Collectives and Their Verbs

Certain nouns and pronouns called collectives may take either plural or singular verbs as predicates, depending on the meaning being conveyed. If the noun or pronoun is viewed collectively as a unit or expresses an amount or measure, its verb is singular; if viewed as separate items, the verb should be plural.

Examples (correct)

About 3000 tons of oil was produced. (A quantity weighting, in all, about 3000 tons).

At this place, 10 meters of sandstone is exposed. (A single exposure).

Twenty-two grams of sample was dissolved in 20 ml of acid. (A single measurement)

Four-fifths of the country is satisfied with its health insurance. (One part of a whole)

Before 1940, less than 10% of production was from opencast mines (Again one part of a whole)

Twenty thousand US dollars is less than the real cost is (A single sum of money)

The United States protects its natural resources. (One country)

Three samples were placed on the table. (Three individual samples).

None is singular when it means no one or no thing ; it is plural when it means no persons or no things . Every and each are usually singular in usage.

A singular verb is common in English with a double subject if it is felt to form a whole: Checking and stamping the forms is the job of the customs authorities.
