in the above construction, 'also' would be better served at the end (if at all), as in: the problem concerns not only x but y (also/as well) also, you can flip this construction: Currently/At the present time/At present/Today this problem concerns the entire republic, not only/just the xxx region/area/district or: etc. |

i guess i would prefer to omit 'also' altogether, but i cannot explain why. perhaps just personal preference. i think the sentence is cleaner without 'also' in this instance (i would refrain from using as well, also:) but yes, you are right. perhaps 'also' would do better after 'but'. my bible is white and strunk, but i did not consult with it on this. |
