Subject: "Девушки" - какие есть варианты? Сидел и задумался (в жару не спалось), а как же этично и корректно по английски девушка? Помимо girl и women (что очень обобщает) и тем более doll, chick, HPOA...Puss? Ваши варианты и желательно с пояснение, где и в каких случаях. |

both "lass[es]" and "gal[s]" are somewhat informal, at the same time showing *no* disrespect to the person |

Lady can be used both formal and informal. lady is a young girl, similar to our "девушка". IMHO, if the asker is intended to call a girl / woman politely he may use Lady. Expacts at the project I worked at used "lady", both in greeting: "how R U doing young lady =)", and in mentioning some other female: "she's a smart lady". But why not use girl? Rather good equivalent to "девушка". |
