In the sequence of events and exhibitions opening of "Novy Museum" is an event of another order.
It is for the first time when private initiative is focused on learning and interpreting the significancy of "another" Russian art in the context of the history of world culture.
Work of the Education and Science Department of the Museum is concentrated on the representation of the classics of Russian arts and on international exhibit projects.

In the sequence of events and exhibitions the opening of Novy Museum is an event of a different importance.

It is for the first time that private initiative is focused to unravel and interpret the significance of the "alternative" Russian art in the context of the world cultural history.

The work....

1. "Sequence of events" is not what you want here: sequence connotes the existance of a timeline, or ordered continuum of events. Just use "among other events."

2. I would simply start the sentence with "For the first time, ....." Also, "significance", and "the other Russian art," not "another Russian art."

3. I would use "presenting the classics of Russian art." Also, "internation exhibit projects" does not sound well. Consider revising to read smth line this: ".... and on organization of internation exhibits."

1. Exhibitions etc. is surely a scheduled succession of events.

2. Is "other" the word? 'Alternative' is. Pretty customary.

......and on organization of internation exhibits ---- and on organization of internationAL exhibitIONs .... - sounds better, doesn't it?

....a timeline.... --- Exhibition space in Russia is too limited to afford anything but a strictly scheduled exhibition program.

My two cents:
1) Among other events and exhibitions the opening of " The Novy Museum" is a special one.
2) The fact that private initiative is focusing on discovering and comprehending the significance of Russian art of "different type" in the context of the global culture is unprecedented.
3)The Museum's Educational and Scientific Department focuses on ???

To Igor Kravchenko-Berezhnoy: I still don't like "sequence of events." Let me explain. The exhibitions may be scheduled, but a sequence also assumes that they are somehow related in that one sort of "feeds into" the next one(s). In other words, the third exhibition is not possible without the second, etc.

Put yet another way, this is a sequence of events of one's life: elementary school, high school, college, grad school, post-grad school. But this one is not: the presentation of the new movie "Avatar," the release of the movie "The Blind Side," the release of the movie "Harry Potter and ." One can surely see these movies in any order and even skip any of them without being culturally harmed in any way. They are completely independant from each other. Same with your exhibitions: while they may be generally related (they are all art exhibits, after all), this relationship is fairly loose. So, you can hardly talk about a sequence of exhibits here.

As for "exhibit vs. exhibition," you can use either, and they mean the same thing. (see the "exhibit" listing in www.dictionary.com under (8): "an act or instance of exhibiting; exhibition.").

Re: "internationAL": you got me here. I hope anyone who relies on any of my answers on this forum do not rely on my spelling. :)

In geology, "a sequence of rocks" is used many times on a page. But within a sequence, each successive rock layer does not necessarily "feed into" the next one. That would mean "determinism", which does not exist. Thus, some layers may contain extraterrestrial material, unrelated to geology proper.

But this is just a remark. I understand geology is no exhibition. Thank you for your explanation!
