Payment Business Services' (PBS) PSAM solution has been nominated as one of the three best applications in the category "banking/finance/retail" at the award ceremony at "Cartes & IT Security 2004" taking place in Paris on the evening of November 2nd. PBS has been working with chips and chip infrastructures for many years, and have consequently built up a substantial experience within the field of chips. A result of this work is the PSAM standard.

PSAM is a payment terminal SIM card that acts as PBS' agent in the merchant's payment terminal. PSAM defines PBS' role as payment terminal operator and processor - just as the SIM card in a mobile telephone defines which company you use. PBS' PSAM is a unit which contains encryption functions, keys, certificates, and tables specifying cards and other data related to the cardholder. PBS has developed the PSAM architecture and functionality in collaboration with Visa International. This solution (PSAM) was selected because of its flexibility. It allows the merchants to choose for themselves who they want to hook their payment terminals up to. If a merchant wishes to switch to another bank, the PSAM in the payment terminal only requires a simple update.
