Subject: жесткая критика Пожалуйста, помогите перевести.Выражение встречается в следующем контексте: :Жесткая критика как позиции республиканцев, так и их лидера.... |
| well, i don't reckon u should try to translate this literally. жесткая критка is a russian phraseology, so it would be unwise to assume a phrase exactly like that exists in english, too. why not forget about the exat wording of the original and try to translate the meaning, eh? thus, we get, an all-out/broadside offensive against republicans on the Hill and in the White House. |

| irisha, come on, if u need any educating, i haven't noticed. and of course, u can translate the russian original ur way, why not, it is as good as any. it all boils down to preferences and style of interpreting. u can also say, republican positions were/have been subjected to pull-all-the-stops attacks. btw, positions here means ideas or strongholds? |
| Да я серьезно! Пора уже и английскому поучиться. :-) А по поводу ideas or strongholds - думаю, что здесь речь идет об идейной позиции, но и strongholds, наверное, "образно" можно использовать, я просто не очень хорошо знакома с этим словом. |

| btw, irisha, why has it been so slow today? is today some kind of public holiday that i m not aware of? and where r all the regulars? i have seen u and v so far, all the other handles seem unfamiliar to me. i feel like an old man who has returned to his country after a long stint abroad and who barely recognizes in the new shop fronts and street names the city of his youth. this kind of makes me feel sad :(( |
