• Over the last three years, the Ministry has ordered some 1200 pieces of medical equipment worth $ 310 million. These range from hi-tech equipment such as MRI and other basic equipment such as microscopes. No figures are available to assess the cost/replacement value of the equipment base owned by the Ministry.
• Over the last three years some 235 individual orders were placed with 18 suppliers of medical equipment. The majority of the orders (198/235 i.e. 84%) were placed with 6 main suppliers.
• Procurement of medical equipment is centralised at the Headquarters. Over the last three years some 165 bulk tender exercises (one tender exercise comprises of many items of equipment ordered) have been launched for the order of medical equipment.
