Subject: liquidity trader AMEX. I have called the alternative assumption the "noisy market hypothesis", because the actions of noise or LIQUIDITY TRADERS often obscure the fundamental value of the firm.
Но нижеприведенные определения меня совсем запутали: *Liquidity traders are hedgers who are willing to pay for a risk-transfer service or naively over-confident traders who expect to make profits but will actually lose money on average; informed traders are sophisticated entities like hedge funds who make money on average. * We assume that the seller has an asset he wishes to sell once and for all. He must decide whether to sell it immediately or whether to wait and sell it later. Our seller is a liquidity trader rather than an information trader or speculator: his desire to liquidate now is unrelated to the asset's current price. That is, we consider a problem of optimal liquidation, not one of short-run positioning |
Еще нашла: Аnother word for noise trader is "liquidity trader". People who sell at market prices because they want cash, or buy at market because they want a place to park cash for yield, but who don't analyze the hold-to-maturity value of the assets they swap are, from market-makers' perspective, no different than sweaty day traders. When, for whatever reason, liquidity traders go away, market-makers find they have no pennies to compete for, and spreads revert to bounds that reflecting valuation uncertainty of people actually willing to bear the risk of ownership http://interfluidity.powerblogs.com/posts/1210118256.shtml |
Привожу еще контекст (здесь подробно разъясняется), может кто откликнется: А more general theory for the outperformance of value stocks is that stock prices are constantly being impacted by buying and selling that is unrelated to the fundamental value of the firm. There buyers and sellers are called "liquidity" or "noise" traders in the academic literature. Their transactions may be motivated by taxes, fiduciary responsibilities, rebalancing of their portfolio, or other personal reasons. In order to explain the value and size effects we see in the historical data, another assumption needs to be added: their price movements caused by these liquidity traders are not immediately reversed by those trading on fundamental information. Any help will be very-very-very appreciated! |
Any ideas? |
A noise trader is a stock trader that does not have any specific information of the security. If the efficient market hypothesis holds, NTs add liquidity to a market while not distorting valuations. The concept of noise traders is one of the central aspects Behavioral Finance is based on. This article or section may contain original research or unverified claims. In fact, a market without noise traders will tend to break down, because prices in such a market will become fully revealing. Informed traders will not enter a market without noises, because it is impossible to profit from trading in a completely efficient market. Informed traders need the existence of noise traders to “hide” their trades and by trading on their private information, informed traders make profits. Through trading, informed traders gradually release relevant information to the market prices and together with the noise traders, they help bring the market back to equilibrium. Some Behavioral Finance articles point out that the risk generated by noise traders can lead to limited arbitrage: thus, the presence of noise traders undermines the classical no-arbitrage reasoning. However, whether noise traders can survive in the long run, and if they can, how much of a pricing distortion they create, are still open questions. This article about stock exchanges is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it. |
A liquidity trader wishes to trade a fixed number of shares within a certain time horizon and to minimize the mean and variance of the costs of trading. Explicit formulas for the optimal trading strategies show that risk-averse liquidity traders reduce their order sizes over time and execute a higher fraction of their total trading volume in early periods when price volatility or liquidity increases. In the presence of transaction fees, traders want to trade less often when either price volatility or liquidity goes up or when the speed of price reversion declines. In the multi-asset case, price effects across assets have a substantial impact on trading behavior. Copyright Springer 2005 |

Peter Cantrop,
blast from the past ;) |
