Subject: How are you? - Quite well, thank you.
Подскажите, пож-та, насколько часто в современном английском употребляется Quite well в виде ответа на вопрос How are you? И по степени формальности у Quite well какие-нибудь особенности есть? Спасибо.

In terms of formality, I would rate it as neutral. It is not too formal, and it is not too colloquial either. From personal observation, older people usually prefer this expression to a less formal “I am pretty good.” (My wife’s grandmother always responds “I am quite well,” when asked how she is doing.) So, in short, it is a pretty safe expression to use in any situation. You won’t come across as “too formal’ or “too informal.”
