staffelite А что, словари недоступны? A human-made deposit что, так трудно прогуглить? |
Google gives only 2 results on штафелит which hardly help with the translation. It is obviously a very rare term. Multitran almost always suffices but is blank on this. Does anyone else have any actual knowledge about this word? Judging by the composition of the contributors, I hardly think it is wise to be insulting native English speakers and driving them away from the forum. Igor's comments certainly didn't motivate me much to contribute my knowledge here. |
And what is a "human-made deposit"??? Up until these sentence, the text was talking only of natural fields for miniing. |

staffelite is in many dictionaries - incl. the AGI Gloss. of Geol. human-made deposit is tailing dumps from previous benefeciation cycles that, with growing commodity prices, become themselves a commercial deposit. Excuse my manner. I mistook you for a Russian speaker who should know where to find your queries but is so lazy as to prefer to milk the experts. |

francolite is a more common synonym for staffelite |
Thanks Igor! I'm a legal translator, and MT is better than the expensive dictionaries I have on my shelf. However, sometimes I do have to deal with technical terminology as part of a business document. The technical dictionaries aren't to be found out here on the fine prairie country of Nebraska. I need to get some when I'm in Russia again. Best regards, Tom |

Many dictionaries are easier (and cheaper) to find through Amazon than in Russia. I'm a geology/minerals translator, but sometimes I have to translate whole laws on mining, etc., so my position in this sense is similar to yours, Tom. Cheers, |
I see the Russian-English dictionaries of Geology by Timofeev and Alekseevfor $110-120 - ouch! I also see they are unavailable on Ozon - несправедливо! А сколько примерно они вааще стоит там, если найдешь, или у издателя - не знаешь, случайно? I bought a business and finance dictionary for $250 and find it to be pretty much useless - Multitran more helpful. Are Timofeev/Alekseev worth the investment? |
