Как правильно (или это зависит от контекста) переводится слово chainage?
- Дистанционная отметка (трубопровода)? Пикет (трубопровода)? или ...?

Привожу контекст (хотя, может, он и не требуется...) аналогичной давности с переводом, предложенным заказчику переводческой фирмой, в которой я тогда работал. Речь идет о геологических изысканиях на Сахалине:

- The length of pipeline between the point where it enters the Makarov mountains north of Makarov (approx. pipeline chainage 329) and where it crosses the watershed divide between the Lesnaya and Lazovaya Rivers (approx pipeline chainage 365) formed a convenient definition of the study area.
- Отрезок трубопровода между местом его вхождения в горы Макарова к северу от г. 2. The goal of the first phase was to create a digital routing map of the entire pipeline structure, with the entire length assigned in chainage units (a customized mechanism of location identification in terms of distance in meters from the defined origin), which provided a unique location value for any point in the chainage length.

3. Many pipelines have already been mapped to a certain degree both in the right-of-way legal survey and in the as-built or route survey. By combining the known route of a pipeline (from previous surveys) and additional GPS or control point coordinate information, coordinates can be computed for any required linear pipeline distance (chainage).
