Subject: manage to do sth IS it OK to use this verb? Recently I've been bitterly scolded for using it in a sentence like "We only managed to cover 2000m" by some Russian-speaking editor who said it was old-fashioned and clumsy (she insisted that I should write sth like "were able to"). I consulted my Russian-speaking colleagues, and they saw no objections to "manage", but I'd like to know the opinion of native speakers of English.So, please, what do you think? |
