I can't agree with that article more! There are a lot of expressions in today's business correspondence that are so outdated that they do not make sense. It's like, in Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility" (one of my wife's favorite books), one of the characters says: "She informed me that she had transferred her affections to my brother." No one could say that phrase with a straight face any more! "She dumped me for my brother," "she prefers my brother to me"? What sounded totally perfect a century ago, really sounds funny or pretentious today.

So why are we still asking people to play scavenger hunt with our enclosures? Or, my personal favorite: "Please *kindly* find enclosed." Not only are we asking them to find a check inside an envelope (quite an endeavor!), but it sounds like we are pleading with them to do so: "kindly find." Hope they don't get all rude and mad at us while looking for a check inside that envelope!

Here are some other phrases I hate and ways to fix them:
Please find enclosed a check -> Enclosed is a/the check
Please be so kind as to send us....-> Please send us...
I am writing to you to inquire about -> Just state in one sentence why you are writing

How's that for an early morning rant? :)))
