curricula gap/difference?

We don't have contracts with colleges. We usually get a letter of acceptance from the registrar/admissions and then a bill from the bursar's office/treasury.

I'm afraid I don't understand what If you could explain, perhaps I would know it.

Hmmm, I see. We have a system of credits. In order to earn a BA one needs something like 128 or 144 credits (it may even vary by university, i'm not sure). It is averaged that this requires 4 years (2 semesters per year, 18 credits per semester). But people can choose to take 15 credits (if you take less than 15 than you can not be a fully matriculated student) or even less, which means they earn their BA in 5 years or more. There arent'any time limitations. Courses are weighed in credits and the number of hours of a course per week usually corresponds to the number of credits.

Anyway, these 144 credits are also broken down into required electives, electives and major credits. When you first enroll you can have your major (degree) as 'undecided' and after you earn half of the 144 toward a BA you need to declare a major. And then you have to take at least 68 credits (again, may vary) toward that major. For instance, if your major is Russian Lit then you must take roughly 22 courses on Russian literature from the Russian department (fakultet).

Our systems are so different that I am not sure what an english equivalent would be (by the way, UK system is different from ours). Perhaps you can say something like: catch-up exams for missing course requirments.

I'm sorry, I don't really like my suggestion. Perhaps someone else can be more helpful.
