Subject: deeply committed in China hist. В приведенном отрывке мне не совсем понятно значение deeply committed in China. Мой вариант: военные были сильно поглощены деятельностью в Китае...Заранее спасибо. The Japanese government and the military were divided over their course of action. They agreed on the creation of a substantial sphere of Japanese influence across much of Asia but how this could be achieved was much less obvious. The military were deeply committed in China and the leadership was split over whether to attack northwards against the Soviet Union or southwards against the European empires (with the risk of dragging in the Americans too). No decisive action was taken when the Europeans were at their weakest in the summer and autumn of 1940. The Japanese restricted themselves to forcing the British to stop their assistance to the Chinese for a few months and to occupying the northern part of French Indochina. |
