Subject: engage tech.

Уважаемые переводчики!

Помогите, пожалуйста, перевести слово engage в следующем контексте:

When operating the compressor, be absolutely certain that the barring device is not engaged in the drive.
For safety reason that the barring device is not engaged at the compressor a sensor monitors the safe position of barring device is reached - the sliding carriage is in the end position. In this position the signal barring device - Not engaged is active with enabling conditions for "Ready to start" of compressor.

имеется в виду механическая связь валоповоротного устройства и компрессора.
обычно для engage быть какая-то муфта, зубчатая пара, шлицы там какие-нибудь.
для зубчатой передачи говорят "ввести в зацепление" (ср. шестерня [бендикса] стартера входит в зацепление с зубчатым венцом маховика).

I'm not an expert on turbines and others (eg Lonely Knight) will know better than me, but generally, 'to engage' (of gears etc) means 'to come into contact with each other' and 'engaged' means 'in contact with each other' -- so that power can be transmitted.

The English is imperfect (6/10), as you say. For example,

* 'For safety reason that'
=> 'For safety reasons, to ensure that'
* 'is not engaged at'
=> 'is not engaged with'
* 'a sensor .... etc'
=> 'a sensor monitors the barring device to ensure that the safe position has been reached'
* The last sentence is also a mess.
'the signal barring device - Not engaged is active with enabling conditions for "Ready to start" of compressor
=> something like 'the signal barring device [whatever that means] is 'Not active', allowing the compressor to be 'Ready to start' '.
