apostolic seeапостольский престол (An apostolic see is an episcopal see whose foundation is attributed to one or more of the apostles of Jesus Christ or to one of their close associates. E.g., Malta has a long Christian legacy and its Archdiocese is claimed to be an apostolic see because Paul the Apostle was shipwrecked on "Melita", according to Acts of the Apostles, which is now widely taken to be Malta. The Acts of the Apostles is the fifth book of the New Testament; it tells of the founding of the Christian church and the spread of its message to the Roman Empire. The New Testament is the second part of the Christian biblical canon, the first being the Old Testament. The New Testament discusses the teachings and person of Jesus Christ, as well as events in first-century Christianity. Christians regard both the Old and New Testaments together as sacred scripture. Alex_Odeychuk)
